Tracing the history of paradise

It is said that surfing was prevalent in Polynesia and was brought to the islands of Hawaii by the Polynesians. However, it is in Hawaii that surfing really began to prosper. It was once a sport only reserved for aliʻi (Hawaiian royalty), which is why surfing is often called the “sport of kings.” As time went on, the sport was ultimately opened to everyone.

Hawaii is the place that is, therefore, said to be the genesis of surfing. The sport has been deeply entwined in the history and the culture of the place. With regions such as the Waimea Bay, and the Banzai Pipeline, it is no surprise that the North Shore has been historically famous among surfers. Generations of them have learned the sport and honed their skills on the waves of Hawaii. Oahu is truly a piece of heaven that escaped to bring joy to us earthlings.
