The advancement of technology has completely changed the face of surfing. Not only has the human race met all its needs in the water, but we have also evolved our style. From surfboards to wetsuits and goggles, everything has been given a makeover. But surfing equipment aside, even watches have undergone a complete revolution to make them last in the water. Kelly Slater, along with fellow professional surfers Stephanie Gilmore, and Sally Fitzgibbons, has recently debuted one such luxury watch.

The product has been launched in partnership with Breitling, a Swiss luxury watchmaker founded in 1884 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, by Léon Breitling. The Breitling company is said to be worth $4.5 billion at present. Recently, in an advertisement for the special edition watch that was shared by the company, Kelly Slater, Stephanie Gilmore, and Sally Fitzgibbons were seen promoting the product. The impressive ad has made some waves in the market.

Surfing greats flaunt fashionable new watches

In a video that was posted to the official Breitling Instagram channel, the three professional surfers were seen showcasing the amazing new line of sustainable and opulent waterproof watches by the brand. Breitling, while posting the video, wrote, “Our Surfer Squad is set for sea and shore with the Superocean Heritage.” According to one of the comments, the watches will be retail for as high as $8,000.

The advertisement contained a montage of Kelly Slater, Stephanie Gilmore, and Sally Fitzgibbons doing things all surfers do. It is no surprise that the 11-time World Champion, Slater, the 8-time World Champion, Gilmore, and Olympic gold medalist in track turned pro surfer, Fitzgibbons, would endorse something as fashionable as the Breitling SuperOcean series. Until the 1950s, Breitling was dedicated to providing timepieces to the aviation industry. However, in the ’50s, they added another gem to their roster.

The company then started producing diving pieces as well, thus starting a line of timeless products that have been seen in the hands of greats such as Kelly Slater. The SyperOcean watch family began with the SuperOcean Slow Motion, introduced in the 1960s. And since then, many more designs have been added to the line. One has to say, Breitling has been crushing it lately with their smart branding and using prolific surfers such as Gilmore, Fitzgibbons, and Slater to launch their models.

Kelly Slater and Breitling: A history

Kelly Slater and the brand Breitling have been associated for a long time now. There have been many models that have been launched in collaboration with the G.O.A.T. of surfing. A notable moment has been when the SuperOcean 1,000-piece limited edition “Kelly Slater” model in 42mm was released, thus marking an important step in their partnership. Talking about the collaboration, Kelly later said, “I’ve been co-creating watches with Breitling for the past few years but this one, in particular, is very personal.”

The watch was, in fact, a very emotional product for Slater. Revealing the reason, he said, “It’s inspired by my late father, who had a watch with an orange face that he used to wear surfing for as long as I can remember. The green and orange together is a color scheme I used to like for the airbrushes on my boards growing up. That combination has always stuck with me.” Just like their previous alliances with each other, seems like the new one is going to be hugely successful as well.
