Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey loves surfing. So much so that he has even acted in a surf flick called Surfer, Dude. McConaughey’s love for the sport has also translated into his son Levi, who is also an avid surfer. In fact, both Matthew and Levi were recently in Hawaii when they caught up with surf sensation Griffin Colapinto. The American surfer who recently qualified for the Olympics claimed that during one of the World Surf League stops, the actor was also present along with his family. Colapinto further revealed that McConaughey ended up psyching him before the event. He also revealed that during the event, he had a chance to share some surfing tips with the actor’s son.

Now, the father-son duo have come together to show their support for one of the world’s prestigious surf havens. As Maui looks to rebuild its community after suffering one of its worst natural disasters in decades, the McConaughey family is standing tall on the island. In a heartfelt video posted on his social media, Matthew and his son Levi have laid out the plan on how to aid the people of Maui and have requested their followers to join the cause.

The McConaughey plan to aid the surfing haven of Maui

Maui witnessed its worst wildfires to date, which have resulted in more than 99 deaths so far and thousands have been displaced. During such a difficult time, the McConaughey father-son duo took to their Instagram and revealed their plan of action to the world.

In the video, McConaughey revealed that his whole family is behind Maui and they have partnered up with Baby2Baby, which is an organization that is committed to aiding families in need. A part of the video’s caption read, “McConaughey’s are funding an emergency aid plane with @Baby2Baby that is filled with hundreds of thousands more emergency supplies that will have an immediate impact on children and families on Maui.” 

Matthew and Levi also revealed that Baby2Baby is not alone and is being supported on the ground by a number of local organizations which include, Aloha Diaper Bank, Maui Food Bank, Hawaii Diaper Bank, Pacific Birth Collective, and Maui Rapid Response.

Not only is the actor known for his charismatic acting, but he is also known for his philanthropic endeavors. He highlighted Maui’s distress in his video and, together with his son, urged the audience to donate and support these organizations as they help restore Maui and its people. While urging and requesting his followers, McConaughey said, “If you’d like to help, check out Baby2Baby. See the work they’re doing or any other way you can help. There’s a lot of help that’s needed.”

Joining his father, Levi also highlighted that the people of Hawaii need help for the long term and emphasized to the viewers that any way they can help will go a long way in helping the island stabilize. As the McConaugheys request people for help, another Hollywood A-Lister has a warning for people who are thinking of visiting the island.

Jason Momoa’s word of advice for tourists

Jason Momoa who is known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Aquaman was born in Hawaii. The recent Maui wildfires have deeply affected him and the actor recently took to Instagram to warn people that they should not be visiting Maui right now. Captioning his post, the Aquaman star wrote, “Do not travel. Do not convince yourself that your presence is needed on an island that is suffering this deeply.” 

He further also highlighted that if tourists were to flock to this damaged island, then whatever help and limited resources are available on the island will have to be unnecessarily shared with tourists. The same message has also been reiterated by local authorities, who have asked all people on non-essential trips to head back home. Authorities have also further requested tourists to not visit Maui at the time.

As Hawaii grapples with its latest disaster people from all walks of life have been doing their bit to support the island and its people. Actors, surfers, and crisis management organizations have come together in a bid to revitalize the island and its people once again. In this time of crisis, people like McConaughey and surfing enthusiasts are setting an example with their support and anybody who can help to restore this community should do their bit for Maui.
