West Australian surfer Max Marsden’s horrific shark attack from Sunday is entailing another tragic episode. After he survived the near-fatal accident at Lucy Beach, Geraldton, the surfer underwent immediate surgery. Although the 30-year-old is out of danger, he will soon undergo a second surgery. After the attack, the surfer had bits of the shark’s teeth in his arm which needed great attention.

On April 24, 9News Perth reported the unfortunate news of Marsden’s second injury on Twitter. Moreover, at the time of the attack, the 1.5-meter-long Bronze Whaler shark had pinned his right arm to the surfboard with its sharp bite. Hence, it appears like Marsden’s surgery requires more attention at the Perth Hospital.

On Sunday morning, Max Marsden and his friend were enjoying a fun surfing session at Lucy Beach, a secluded beach in Greenough, near Geraldton. Unexpectedly, the shark came underneath Marsden and caused a ruthless bite on his right arm. While the shark continued to bite, the surfer incessantly punched the 1.5-meter-long creature to get rid of it.

Luckily, after a few struggling moments, the ugly fight between the shark and the 30-year-old ended. Marsden and his friend slowly began paddling to the shore. Since they were in a remote location, they had to wait for a four-wheeler to reach them. Later on, Marsden was transferred to an ambulance that took him to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. By Sunday night, he was again transferred to the Perth Hospital where he underwent his first surgery.

In an interview with ABC News, Marsden’s friend revealed that he was recovering well, but he still has a few bits of shark teeth in his cuts. Moreover, the shark bite has ripped all the muscles in Marsden’s right arm. Hence, he needs special care in his recovery process resulting in a second injury.

Max Marsden will have to undergo a second operation, as 9 NEWS Perth reported, “Professional surfer Max Marsden will now undergo a second operation after being attacked by a shark during his early morning surf on Sunday.”

As per the Mayor, the area is highly isolated which makes it impossible to keep a watch on the sharks. However, for the time being, they have temporarily closed Lucy Beach.
