The encounter of a shark with a surfer has become an age-old story now, something that never ceases to exist. However, every single time it happens, it reinvigorates the fear in beachgoers and surfing enthusiasts. And words can’t even begin to describe the pain, panic, and desperation the victim must feel in those moments when such large jaws just emerge out of the water and drag them underneath. 15-year-old Peter Branculli is one such victim, who can narrate exactly what happened with him after his very recent encounter with the sea monster.
Unlike most other shark-attack victims, Branculli survived the wrath brought upon him by the shark, and is now telling his tale. His ordeal with the shark, while scary, could also be instrumental in taking protective measures in the future.

Peter Branculli, a 15-year-old kid, was surfing at Kismet Beach on Fire Island, New York, on Monday. Little did he know then, he was going to get excruciatingly close to his dying moments under a shark’s jaws. “My first reaction to when the shark grabbed my foot was to immediately get out the water…and get help”, Branculli said to News 12 Long Island, after surviving the attack.
Branculli was lucky, despite how offensive and odd it may sound, that the shark only left heel and toes. This is because an average shark bite either takes a large chunk out of the leg or sometimes splits it in half. Therefore, Branculli was fortunate to survive, but he was smart, too. He swam to the shore with his injured leg and a nice gentleman in the water helped him.

Peter Branculli may have survived the attack, but even a mere brush of the shark’s enormous teeth was enough to cause enough harm to his feet. His toes and heel are still intact, but Branculli may not surf for quite some time now. Surprisingly enough, that is exactly what Branculli wants to do.
Despite creating a panic in the region, Branculli wants to go surfing as soon as possible
“Very excited to go back and start shredding again”, said Branculli about wanting to start surfing again. However, the fear of sharks on the beach is real, and all parents know better now not to send their kids into the water. That obviously also includes Branculli’s mother. “I am very nervous for him, I think he might have a little panic but…I’m really proud of him and he’s super brave,” said Branculli’s mother about his son’s valiant effort.

Branculli also thanked the various on the beach, first responders, and the hospital, who all played a part in his quick recovery. Branculli wants to return to surfing as soon as he can, but his family might be apprehensive about it. The good thing from this update is that the incident hasn’t scarred Branculli mentally, as such moments of fear can often lead to prolonged shock in people.
