Surfing is one of the most fun, challenging, and relaxing sporting activities of all time. Several people, especially the ones who live in coastal areas, find the ocean waves both exhilarating and calming. In fact, celebrities from Hollywood relish the joy of surfing as much as common people.

Hollywood really loves the beaches and surfing, and so do its stars. The sport has served as a source of relaxation for these celebs as they rode the waves and escaped reality. Here is a list of five Hollywood sensations that hit the sand and the water as soon as they get the chance.

Matthew McConaughey and his newfound love for surfing

In 2008, Matthew McConaughey had worked in a movie called ‘Surfer, Dude.’ While one would think that he was cast in the movie because of his love for surfing, they would be wrong. In fact, it is the other way around. Working in this movie is what actually started McConaughey’s romance with the waves.

A stunt double was used to perform his action sequences, but the 54-year-old had his fair share of surfboard time as well. Speaking to GrindTV about his newfound love for surfing in an old interview, McConaughey said, “It might sound corny, but I’ve never had a bad time surfing. I love being out there, I love the culture, I love being outside—I just love it, man.”

While McConaughey discovered surfing through a film project, another Hollywood celebrity had always loved it. Moreover, she took surfing very seriously and has even surfed with a great American surfing legend.

Cameron Diaz wasn’t deterred from surfing despite injury

Cameron Diaz is known for great roles in classic comedies, rom-coms, and action movies. While the Charlie’s Angel can kill it in any sport, nothing embodies her chill and sassy vibe as much as surfing. Moreover, Diaz herself is a big lover of surfing and performed her own surfing stunts in ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.’

Cameron Diaz had once even got her nose broken in a surfing accident when she collided with another surfer. However, this didn’t stop her from hitting the waves. In fact, she has also surfed along with World Champion Kelly Slater. While Diaz has been seen surfing the water quite often, another celebrity who is known for surfing her own fans is also a big surfing aficionado. 

Lady Gaga surfs the water perfectly as her audience

Lady Gaga almost always surfs over the hands of her loving fans whenever she performs in her concerts. However, she also loves taking the surfboard and charging towards the oceans as well. Lady Gaga is a natural at riding the waves and learned to move perfectly on top of her surfboard after just a few tries.

In 2011, the multi-Grammy award winner went on a holiday to Mexico where she learned how to surf. Since then, the pop star hasn’t stopped. In fact, she even got her pet dog involved as she surfed the waves with him. While Lady Gaga surfed along with a furry family member, another celebrity is known for enjoying surfing with her family.

Gisele Bundchen and her surfing holidays

Gisele Bundchen can surf the waves as elegantly as she can walk down the red carpet. The Brazilian model who made the Forbes list of one of the highest-paid models also shares a deep love of surfing.

Bundchen has been seen on the surfboard along with her ex-husband Tom Brady on multiple occasions. Moreover, she also enjoys wavy escapades along with her daughter Vivian. The last person on the list is known for being the God of another element. However, he also shows considerable flair when it comes to taming the waves.

surfing is a reset button for Chris Hemsworth

Chris ‘Thor’ Hemsworth is one of the greatest lovers of surfing to exist in Hollywood. According to The God of Thunder, “I’ve always loved surfing… It’s one of the few things that holds my attention completely and in its entirety.”

Hemsworth can’t keep himself away from the waves and the surfboard and often escapes for a taste in between shooting dates. He says that it helps him reset things and cleanse his thoughts. The Australian has been obsessed with taming the waves since his days as a teenager. He said once in an interview, “I didn’t really have much of a social life during high school. I wasn’t really going out to parties. All I wanted to do was surf and watch movies.”
