Surfing is one sport where the athlete is always close to nature. Surfers have a deep knowledge of the oceans and the waves they surf. Although rare, surfers also come in contact with the inhabitants of the waters they surf on. Recently the Greenpeace UK Facebook page showed the world one such rare meeting.

Within two days of posting, the video has gained over 500,000 views, and everyone, from casual fans to experienced surfers, has commented on the post.

In the 31-second clip, a man is surfing a wave, and a pack of dolphins is swimming beside him. The rare sight was captured off the coast of Ventura, California, and Greenpeace posted the video the day after Christmas.

Greenpeace UK captioned the post video with the caption, “My kind of Boxing Day swim!” The beautiful moment the surfer shared with the pack of dolphins brought the surfing community together.

How the surfing community reacted

People on social media couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Users commented how surreal the surfer must have felt to see dolphins swimming beside him. “Fantastic when nature seeks and joins you. Big pinch-me moment.” commented one user. “It’s what dreams are made of!” wrote another. “Beyond incredible, one honored surfer,” commented a third user.

The video astonished everyone. “How fantastic! What a great experience for the surfer,” a user commented. One user praised the uncommon sight and said, “Just love Mother Nature putting on a show.” The awe-inspiring video made some people want to surf. A user commented, “It’s pictures like this that make me wish I could surf.”

Veteran surfers also commented on the video. Some relived their once-in-a-lifetime memory. “I remember surfing with dolphins like this down at Mallacoota,” wrote a surfer. “That happened to me once back in the 80s near Cape Hatteras,” commented another veteran surfer. However, there was no lack of humor in the section either.

“It’s bloody scary when you’re body surfing and the gray shadows appear beside you. Until you work out what’s surfing with you and then it’s just embarrassing,” commented one user, hinting at coming across sharks. “Amazing how the dolphins have trained that human!” wrote another user. One user said the incident wasn’t so extraordinary for the dolphins. “Not a single dolphin bucket list includes ‘swimming with human beings!'” the user wrote.
