Surfing has been the go-to sport for beach lovers, and it is one of the finest ways to beat the summer blues. There have been numerous videos of wave riders enjoying their time in the water that have circulated on the internet. Sometimes these videos can be thrilling for enthusiasts, but if that line of excitement and thrill is crossed, then it can be a bit problematic sometimes.

Along similar lines, a bizarre video of an Australian surfer made headlines a few days ago after he went surfing with his not-so-crowd friendly pet. The surfer and his alarming act caught the limelight, and later many eyebrows were raised for the incident, ultimately leading to the involvement of the authorities, and he was also fined for the same.

The video of the surfer named Higor Fiuza has been shared by Now This on their X handle (formerly Twitter). In the video, Fiuza is seen going to surf in the waters, but the act that made waves was his fellow partner who accompanied him in the ocean.

He was accompanied by a 3-year-old carpet python; the snake is seen giving him company on his surfboard. The video has reached Queensland’s Department of Environment and Science, and the surfer was posed with a fine of $1,495.

In the video, he can be seen carrying his pet Python named “Shiva” wrapped around his neck. The duo can be seen taking a stroll on the waves in Gold Coast, Queensland.

He was later asked about his surfing adventure with the reptile, to which he replied that the python goes for a swim and comes back to the board. However, the officials hold differing opinions regarding the surfer’s actions.

What officials have to say

Jonathan McDonald, senior wildlife officer at the Department of Environment and Science, said that the surfer put the serpent’s life at risk while violating the rule to bring the snake to a public place.

McDonald also noted that the water might have been too cold for the snake. He added that Fiuza also?did not possess the specific license required for unrestricted travel with the serpent.

It was also reported that Shiva is not an ocean snake, and normal snakes should not be exposed to water. Furthermore, there were also concerns regarding the transmission of the diseases to aquatic wildlife. However, Fiuza added that the duo have been on such surfing adventures multiple times, and he also added that his wave-riding partner enjoys her time in the water and is always calm while surfing.
