Surfing and swimming enthusiasts have flocked to the picturesque beaches of Los Cabos for decades. But there seems to be an imminent danger lurking around Los Cabos as Hurricane Hilary is about the hit its shores. Los Cabos, known for its sandy stretches, is now facing the dark mark of black flags on all its beaches. Hurricane Hillary is expected to result in major swells around the Los Cabos region with more than 10 feet waves.

These waves will also be followed by heavy rain and strong winds. Keeping this in mind, authorities have now sealed off all beaches in the Los Cabos region as the threat of Hurricane Hilary continues. While a local surfing instructor also has some words of advice for surfing enthusiasts looking to chase waves from the hurricane.

The port of Los Cabos, which serves as a gateway to maritime adventures, closed its doors on Thursday. All water-based activities in the region are now on hold as waves are expected to rise to 22 feet. The local surfing association and the municipal sports director have joined forces to raise a unified voice. As surfers look to chase the perfect swell in these terrible weather conditions, authorities have announced a special warning by bringing in one of their own.

According to a report by The Cabo Sun, Cayito, a cherished local surf instructor, stepped forward as a spokesperson for the surfing community and said, “It is important that surfers follow the recommendations issued by Civil Protection … Sometimes, in search of the biggest, highest or longest wave, they take a risk, but the consequences can be catastrophic.” Hurricane Hilary is a Category 1 hurricane, which will also affect California along with Los Cabos. But it poses an even greater risk to Los Cabos given its terrain and configuration.
