After a brief respite since the pandemic, the US Open is back in hot water. The surfing tournament is facing a huge challenge in 2023. Their main sponsor so far has been Vans, but this year the company has decided not to renew their sponsorship contract. It creates a huge vacuum in the resources of the tournament’s organizers. Wallex, a digital payments service provider, replaced the Costa Mesa-based brand. The WSL announced this week that Wallex would be the title sponsor for the US Open of Surfing, which will run from July 29 to August 6. The tournament will be held in Huntington Beach, California.

The massive surf competition has now been rebranded as the 2023 Wallex US Open of Surfing Presented by Pacifico. With this new sponsor, the tournament has found a new lease of life. They announced that all events will continue as usual with some exciting new additions. Audiences will enjoy watching thrilling performances both on land and in water.

The mantle of the US Open of Surfing has changed hands many times in the past. Each time the sponsor has brought something new to the tournament. Now that Wallex has taken over, they have made many changes and also added more exciting features. In the past, under Vans, the event had a more family-friendly outlook. With Wallex, that trend will continue but with some adjustments. “As such, fans can expect more than just a surfing competition, as the US Open’s festival-style setup will include activities and experiences for the whole family,” clarified a WSL official to Orange County Register.
