A 74-year-old surfer has tragically passed away at Currumbin Alley at the South end of Gold Coast beach. The man was believed to be surfing some big waves when he lost his balance. He couldn’t manage to get up to the water’s surface after falling off the board. The news has shocked the beachgoers of the area.
A bright sunny morning at Gold Coast became a place of havoc after the terrifying incident.

Every effort of the family and medical staff went in vain
The man’s son came just in time to drag his father out of the waves. He took him back to the shore where lifeguards and beachgoers immediately sprang into action, administering CPR and other life-saving measures until paramedics arrived on the scene. Emergency services received a call just before 2:30 pm regarding a man who had been pulled from the water at Main Beach.

The man was then transported to the hospital in critical condition. According to the 9 News report the accident happened around 7:30 am in the morning. The medical staff took all the emergency safety protocols to save the old man’s life. “(They were) just trying to help bring the guy into the shore where we could get him into a safe palace and I guess commence CPR”, an eye witness told 9 News.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the man was unable to be saved and was pronounced dead a short time later. Authorities are reminding the public to always be mindful of their safety when swimming at the beach, to swim between the flags, and to obey any warnings or directions from lifeguards. However, this wasn’t the first case that has unearthed the dark side of this adventurous sport.

The rise in surfing accidents
Recently, a famous tik toker came to limelight after she faced a similar accident on camera. The horrific accident resulted in heavy injuries to the regular surfer seen in the video. ” Why do these things happen to me? I got four waves and then I got this one and fractured two bones around my eye.”, she wrote while describing the accident.

After losing her balance the tik toker hit her head with the surfboard causing a severe injury. The cases of surfing accidents have been increasing at a very rapid rate. Thus, it’s the duty of surfers and the authorities to take precautionary steps in order to avoid such mishaps.
