The four-day USA Track and Field Championships Outdoor was held from the 6th to the 9th of July. This 2023 championship was held in Hayward Filed of Eugene, Oregon. The events took place from 100 meters sprinting to 35 kilometers walk. In this four-day battle, the world could see a record-breaking performance by a young Sprinter. 

Erriyon Knighton, the 19-year-old American sprinter, specializes in 100 meters and 200 meters sprinting. In World athletics, this young sprinter Broke the legend Usain Bolt’s record. The final competition was held on Sunday, on which Erriyon set a new record and stunned the world with his incredible performance. His final race video was also shared on Twitter, showing his record-breaking sprinting. 

Erriyon Knighton’s first National Title

In 2009, the Jamaican sprinting champion and world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, set a record for World Athletics in Berlin, Germany. The record for both 100m and 200m men’s races with 9.58 and 19.19 clean timing was set by Bolt. Erriyon Knighton, in June 2023, Oslo Diamond League broke Bolt’s record. Erriyon, on Sunday, gave another outstanding performance in Track and Field Eugene with a 19.72 timing. A Twitter handle, ‘NBC Olympics and Paralympics,’ posted the video of this unbelievable race. 

 

The young star said, “It was a very good race. I came here and executed right,”  on US Broadcaster NBC. Erriyon later added,  “We got us a good squad going over there [to Worlds]. We gonna try to make the same thing happen as last year and get the sweep.” The young star came far in a short space of time and had an amazing journey with victories and record-breaking performances. He even overhauled the 100m champion Fred Kerley in this national title race. Knighton’s starting was not remarkably great, but he managed to outshine the race by the end.

The rough start turned into an astonishing victory

Erriyon experienced his first Olympics in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and secured fourth place. With his dedication and fascinating passion, Erriyon had made few victories now. In this USA Track and Field championship, Erriyon was in 5th place on the 50m of the track; then, eventually, he started gaining good momentum. And by the 100m, he climbed two positions and found himself on the third he held on up to 150m. Then, just with a touch of final boost, he outdistanced all the other athletes and secured the gold medal.

The ranking came up as Kenny Bednarek, the American Olympian, secured second place with a good timing of 19.82 seconds. It was then followed by the US sprinting star Courtney Lindsey, with a timing of 19.85, and then came Fred Kerley with 19.86 seconds. All in all, the young athlete Erriyon Knighton made a remarkable victory and won the National title. This is a very proud moment for American Track and Field fans that Erriyon broke the under-20 record and won his first national title. The trio of Kenny, Courtney, and Fred will be heading to Budapest and representing the US at World Championships next month.
