Shaun White, the three-time Olympic gold medallist snowboarding champion once spoke about the tennis legend in a Q&A session. He started the conversation about her professional success which then took a turn towards a few lesser-known things about the G.O.A.T of tennis.

Shaun White is all praise for Serena Williams

Shaun White is renowned for his candid talks, and witty and spontaneous answers.  In a Q&A session held by Shaun in March this year, he named Serena Williams as one of the athletes who have inspired him. He also said that she is one of the top female athletes of all time.

White rightly described her as incredible. He expressed awe at her magnificent career and everything she represented. Her career spanning four decades is a great achievement by itself without giving up on the spirit and love for the game. Williams earned her first championship as a mother in the Auckland Open 2020.

He also mentioned that it was a lot of fun to hang out with her. “She’s hilarious because we hang out sometimes.” he said. He recalled a memory that it was Halloween once and she showed up at his party. “One time. It was Halloween. She came to my party,”

White appeared at the Oscars in March this year alongside Tony Hawk and Kelly Slater to commemorate the 60th anniversary of James Bond. Serena attended the Oscars after a film called ‘King Richard’ was created about her. Later, they all took a picture together.

William thrives despite hardships

In her 27-year-long illustrious career, the tennis legend survived several challenges, injuries, controversies, and work-life balance issues. The level of grit and determination she carries is unbelievable. Growing up I wasn’t the richest, but I had a rich family in spirit. Standing here with 19 championships is something I never thought would happen. I went on a court just with a ball and a racket and with a hope,” she said in an interview, emphasizing hope and confidence as the key tools to achieve greatness.

Her career is a great story for every athlete. She had 92 wins at the Australian Open, 69 wins at Roland Garros, 98 wins at Wimbledon, and 108 wins at US Open; numbers that are mind-boggling and unfathomable. The former World No.1 retired on September 2nd, following her match in US Open 2022. Several celebrities took on to the Internet to congratulate her and expressed gratitude for shining bright and paving the path for future generations.

Besides playing tennis, she is quite active on other fronts. She runs businesses relating to beauty, fashion, and accessories. She is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2011. When asked about her retirement, she said, “evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”
