White proved his exceptional skills as a kid and was noticed by Tony Hawk, the skateboarding legend. On several occasions, he expressed his gratitude to his family for playing an instrumental role in shaping his successful career. In the interview, he shared a glimpse into his excitement as a child and how his mom was a part of this incident.

Shaun White waited for it with bated breath

White reflected on his favorite childhood memory of when he was promised to get a board and was very excited. He would run from school every single day and ask his mother, “Is the board here?” This wait continued for a week or two, and his anticipation grew with each passing day. And his mom would reply, “No, it’s not here. It’s not here.”
