Shaun White, following a very disappointing season in the 2014 Olympics at Sochi, was yearning to make a grand comeback. And come back he did! At the 2018 Winter Olympics, White ended his match with gold, making everyone happy and announcing the return of the poster boy of Snowboarding.

Shaun’s phenomenal performance at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games shook his fans and fellow athletes alike. People were quick to celebrate and even a few former Olympians lauded his skills. One of them was the very notable Jeremy Abbott.

Shaun White named GOAT by former Olympian

Figure skater Abbott is a former Olympian and four-time US Champion. During his tenure at the games, he had achieved a lot. Both White and Abbott had been a part of team USA that competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics and saw lukewarm results.

However, the 2018 Olympics saw Shaun return like a beast and, Abbott was ecstatic. He tweeted, comparing the USA team to astronauts, entities who have won over gravity.

He tweeted, “There is a reason #teamusa is dressed like astronauts.” And added how he thought White had “Actually left the atmosphere”. He also used multiple hashtags, including #goat, denoting his pride in the performance Shaun had put forth.

And, the Twitter crowd agreed! Seems like this red-haired Olympian is equally adept at awing both fans and professionals. 

Shaun White’s career trajectory

In 2022, White finally made the call to wrap up his 16 years of competitive career and fans were mournful. He first competed in Olympics in 2006 and bagged a gold. At 35, White retains the title of being one of the highest-paid snowboarders the world has ever seen. He has participated in both X games and the Olympics a few times. He is also the only one in his sport to win three medals at the Olympics. This makes him elite in the game.
