However, Shaun comes from a humble beginning. In one way or the other, White has been supported by his family in pursuing this sport. With this in mind, on many occasions, the snowboarding champion has expressed gratitude and acknowledgment to his family for the extraordinary things that have happened to him.
Shaun White and his family
Shaun White is the youngest of four kids in his family. His mother, Cathy was a waitress in a hotel and his father worked for the San Clemente water department. However, Shaun had no idea what his dad’s job was. Shaun spoke about his dad, Roger in a casual tone, “He is a dad. He’s got to deal with his kids and these things. We are not allowed to be friends.“

According to Shaun, whenever he asked about his dad, his mom used to reply, “He’s sleeping.” Shaun laughed saying, “He’s sleeping on the job? That’s pretty harsh.” Also, he added, “He was just someone to be observed at that time at that young age.” Conversely, as he grew up, he found a great friend in his dad.

White’s family shared a great connection. In an interview, White’s mom admitted that the sport got their family closer. She recalled, “We all ride together and take the same lines. Snowboarding together is such a great bonding experience for us,”
White’s family was instrumental
The legendary snowboarder grew up with a family of snowboarders. In an interview, Roger said, “I wanted to be a surfer, and my dad was never behind me. I was hoping to get Shaun into surfing. I put him on a boogie board when he was really young, about 4 years old.”
Shaun’s mom bought him a snowboard to keep him busy and told him to copy what his seven-year older brother Jesse did. Having a brother seven years older was a blessing to Shaun. Although it was Roger who taught Shaun how to snowboard when he was 4, he took an interest in the sport because of his brother.
