In an episode of his docuseries “Shaun White: The Last Run,” it was revealed how he overcame that upset at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. In this particular episode, he revealed how he rejuvenated his spirit, which played a key role in his victory at the Pyeongchang Olympics in 2018. It was shown that his coach, JJ Thomas, and his fellow snowboarder, Toby Miller, traveled to Calgary to start training for the Pyeongchang Olympics.
This training session was started 13 months prior to the commencement of these events. Not only was he training, but he was also recovering from an injury that he sustained while training in New Zealand. Pressure was palpable for Shaun White as he had to make a comeback, and for that, he had come up with a new maneuver called “YOLO Flip.” He, his trainer, and Miller were tensed about the flip. White performed the trick and made it look so effortless. Then White celebrated the flip with a bunch of kids present there.

The kids present there could not believe that they were seeing White perform live, and he, being his humble self, celebrated the trick with them. After he nailed the trick, his trainer referred to it as amazing,” and this trick turned out to be a major turning point for Shaun White. White returned in 2018 and took the world by storm, snatching a gold medal in the half-pipe event.
