Alpine skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin is taking a break from the intense training on the slopes. Only 30 more days until the Skiing World Cup starts on 28 October and Shiffrin has planned for some rest and relaxation time, not only to refuel her athletic abilities but to reconnect with various other parts of her life.

Across the ski world, people have responded to Shiffrin’s sabbatical update with optimism. That’s why she went to the picturesque town of Avon, where the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa Avon, Vail Valley planned a community event honoring her on Tuesday, September 26, called “Innovation and Success”.

In a recent Instagram story Mikaela Shiffrin has shared a video of the event. Captioning the story Shiffrin wrote,  “Great event this afternoon at westinriverfront!!!” She has longstanding ties with The Westin RiverFront, as she has been a Resident Athlete there ever since 2014, just about the same time she became the youngest slalom champ in Olympics history at Sochi. She is from the Vail Valley and she is not just a star on the world stage; she is also the best Alpine skier ever.

She achieved her 87th FIS World Cup victory in a record-breaking fashion on March 11, 2023. She broke the record held by Ingemar Stenmark, now having 87 WC victories and she is the most successful alpine skier in terms of World Cup victories in Alpine skiing history.

At the event, fans got a chance to participate in a Q&A conversation with Shiffrin, who has been called one of the most inventive minds at work today in the field of athletics.

Shiffrin’s Contribution to Her Community

Not only was the September 26th event an appreciation for Shiffrin’s success and her status as an icon of our community, but it also demonstrated The Westin Riverfront Resort’s dedication to supporting community development. The resort’s ongoing partnership with Shiffrin has resulted in substantial contributions to the local athletic scene, including the creation of Studio M: A brand new “Mikaela Shiffrin Performance Studio”, the first facility of its kind built to improve sporting prowess.

The event took place in partnership with the Education Foundation of Eagle County which highlighted the role of education in developing students beyond their physical potential and mental needs. The event marks another milestone of Shiffrin’s commitment beyond the slopes.
