“Man, I love tennis!” were Lindsey Vonn’s words recently as she attended the Mutua Madrid Open 2024. As a fervent tennis enthusiast and frequent attendee at tournaments, the skiing star regularly shares her insights on the sport and cheers players via her Instagram stories. For the Madrid Open, Vonn wrote, “It was my first time attending the Madrid Open and it did not disappoint! I had so much fun cheering on my friends”. Vonn’s association with tennis reached another level; when the world No. 1 player Iga Świątek hailed her recently.

In an interview with Tennis.com on 27th April, the young tennis sensation Świątek revealed Vonn’s influence on her, expressing a desire to learn from the skiing icon. Swiatek added, “I feel like for sure she’s the person to talk to if I need advice or I just want to talk to somebody who’s cool because she’s really cool. We’ve been actually kind of talking about also, Ben’s little game here. She gave me some tips, so maybe she wanted to be part of the team. But for sure you can feel like, I don’t know, her power even with the way she talks and her confidence. So for sure, this is something that I might learn from her.” she did not stop there.

Recalling their interactions, when asked about, if Swiatek ever spoke to former skiing GOAT, Vonn, she replied, “ I looked up to her, really. I mean, honestly, I didn’t have a lot of buddies that I followed, but she was one of them. But she’s cute, so I also read her biography and I found huge inspiration from that. So yeah, we met a couple of times already, and we always talk for longer times than I usually do.” At the event, Świątek demonstrated her dominance with a resounding victory over Sorana Cirstea, marking her 26th win of the season.

Swiatek’s Dominance continues in madrid and next stop

Continuing her dominance, the world No.1 secured a commanding victory over Sorana Cirstea in the third round, marking her 26th win of the season against four losses. With a strong performance, Swiatek aims to claim her first title in Madrid, a significant European clay court event she has yet to conquer. Despite reaching the final last year, victory eluded her.

Notably, it’s been over a decade since the top seed clinched the Women’s title in Madrid. Swiatek now sets her sights on her next opponent, Sara Sorribes Tormo, as she strives to make her mark in the tournament.
