The much-awaited showdown FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup commenced on 28th Oct in Solden Austria soil, is breaking the internet with its every other recent update. While American GOAT Mikaela Shiffrin is taking away a fair share of the spotlight, there are other notable contenders as well. On the same note, another major update has been making headlines in the skiing community.

Before the athlete clinches historic moments in the second run, one of the talented Norwegian alpine ski racer, Ragnhild Mowinckel has been disqualified. The news is shattering for the skiing world fans who were sitting on the edge to cheer for their favorite skier because of a controversial reason.

A social media post updated the world with disheartening news that Mowinckel has been disqualified because of fluoride wax on her skis. Sportsface, on 28th October 2023, before the second run for the slalom, broke the news on their X handle. The FIS implemented a prohibition on fluorine wax ahead of the season and warned ski professionals about potential disqualification if they used environmentally harmful wax. While the concept is sound, it appears to be lacking in thorough development.

The new post showcases athlete Ragnhild Mowinckel in a picture on ice with the caption that reads, “

#ScAlpino | Fluoride wax found on Ragnhild’s skis #Mowinckel , disqualified from the giant’s second run #Soelden”. Ban on fluorine wax, cautioning ski experts about disqualification for using environmentally harmful wax. 31 years old Mowinckel, expressed shock and tearfully reacted to the decision. In subsequent discussions, the FIS clarified that the Norwegian exhibited an exceptionally elevated value, leaving no alternative. Here’s what Mowinckel and Head’s perspective says.

Head’s Bewilderment and FIS Scrutiny

The decision left not just Mowinckel but also her ski outfitter, Head, in utter disbelief. Head’s race director, Rainer Salzgeber, described it as the “worst case.” He highlighted that the same racing ski, with identical preparation, had passed FIS control measurements with all-green indicators previously, but now displayed a dark red result. Salzgeber criticized the FIS, expressing confusion over the sudden spike in values.

He voiced concerns about the FIS structure, stating, “It’s like the entire FIS structure has too many chiefs running around. It’s absolutely inexplicable for us; the value was now far too high.
