On 28th Oct 2023, a few hours ago, NBC Olympics added a new post on their Twitter handle. The post accompanied a short few-second video of Mikaela Shiffrin talking about what keeps her going. Shiffrin says, “I feel actually that motivation has been pretty strong, the background of the video is edited with her great skiing moves and her voice coming in front, she further adds, “It’s not like the motivation to win, it just motivation to keep moving forward”. The American athlete has defied various odds in life. From family disheartening incidents to losing some of the events and also her health conditions. However, it was “motivation to keep moving forward” that helped Mikaela to clinch victories and never look back.
However, her focus will be attaining the level of skiing she’s striving for. Unexpectedly, on the opening day in Solden, a twist of fate unfolded. Regrettably, the legendary skier was thwarted in her quest for record-breaking dominance, adding to the disappointment as she fell behind in the initial run.
Disappointing fall from the sensation skiier here to stay
The prominent figure encountered a significant challenge in the initial run by Mikaela Shiffrin, aiming for a historic 6th successive World Cup giant slalom win. With a deficit of 0.75 seconds, she finished the first leg in 5th place with a time of 1:09.52. Shiffrin once again trailed behind her formidable rival, Petra Vlhova.
Her toughest competitor, Petra Vlhova secured the 3rd position with a slim margin of +0.63 from the lead and a time of 1:09.40. Brignone of Italy. She eyed the record of becoming the oldest woman to win a World Cup giant slalom race at 33, claiming the lead in the first run with a time of 1:08.77.
