Retired skier Lindsey Vonn is famously known as the queen of speed, especially for her expertise in downhill skiing. In 2010, Vonn became the first ever US woman to win in the said category. With 43 victories in downhill skiing, the 38-year-old skier hit another impossible record earlier this year sliding in Streif in Kitzbühel, the pinnacle of downhill. The three-time Olympic gold medalist skied the 3,312-meter downhill with a speed of 62 miles per hour in the evening. Despite experiencing a series of bone-chilling slopes throughout her 15 years career, Vonn has no fear in her mind. In fact, post-retirement, she misses those thrills.

Recently, tv personality Jay Glazer shared a clip of Lindsey Vonn catching up on a conversation with him on his show, Unbreakable: A Mental Health Podcast. In that interview, the legendary skier addressed whether she at all fears while flying down the mountain in her sport.

During her interview, Vonn expressed that fear is the fuel that drives an athlete to push themselves to win championships. For the retired skier, fear has never hurdled her way to victories. Being an expert in the downhill category, Vonn added, “You know downhill is, is a unique sport. You’re risking a lot.” She explained that while skiing downhill, the skier has to be vigilant of their limit. They should not push themselves beyond it.

Furthermore, Vonn addressed that not feeling fear while skiing differentiates her from the others. She added, “I love to go fast.” The skier enjoys the thrill she experiences while going fast on the slopes. However, sadly after retirement in 2019, Vonn misses that adrenaline rush in life. She told, “I really miss now in my life is that I don’t have that.” Presently, she invests time in her entrepreneurial activities but none of it thrills her like skiing downhill.

Indeed skiing involves several risks of injuries. However, Vonn has a positive approach to it.

Lindsey Vonn considers crashing as a part of a skier’s job

Last year, Vonn appeared in an interview with Graham Bensigner to talk about the risks of injuries in skiing. The retired skier recognized in that conversation that several skiers globally have lost their legs, and arms and have also lost their lives while performing it. But Vonn loves skiing so much that nothing frightens her.

She explained in that interview that the faster she goes on the slopes, the more she enjoys it. Vonn also holds an unbelievably positive approach to the looming chances of injuries in the sport, “Crashing is just a part of our job you know. The downs also make you appreciate the highs a lot more”. Evidently, the passionate skier sees no flaw in skiing.
