Katsumi Saeki, a cross-country skier from Japan, has left everyone in awe of her passion and dedication. At the age of 88, Saeki has broken her own record that she set last year at the Japan Masters Championships.
A skiing brilliance like no other

As per the reports of BOL News, 88-year-old Saeki participated in the 2023 Masters World Cup held in Austria. By doing that, she broke her own Guinness World Record as the oldest female cross-country skier to participate professionally. However, she was the only contestant in her age category, and she impressed everyone with her performance. She stunned the spectators with her 5-kilometer classic-style run while clocking an incredible time of 26 minutes and 18 seconds. By doing so, Saeki outpaced skiers in the 71–75, 76–80, and even the 81–85 categories.
In the 5-kilometer freestyle, she posted an impressive time of 29 minutes and 4 seconds, and with that, she outperformed competitors in the 76–80 and 81–85 age categories. Saeki is not in the mood to hang her ski boots anytime soon, and she is looking to better these records at the Masters World Cup in 2024, which will be held in Finland. Saeki’s performance is a reminder of the fact that age barriers hold no sway when determination propels one forward. There are no limits that cannot be transcended with resolute determination. With her prowess, she became the center of attraction at the Masters World Cup, which witnessed record participation this year.

This event is specially organized for cross-country competitors aged 30 and above. The Masters World Cup is also acknowledged by the International Ski Federation. This year’s competition saw a record number of participants, particularly from the United States and several European countries. Japan had two competitors in the World Cup, including Saeki and one other. There are mainly two categories—cross-country and freestyle—that this World Cup offers.
