If there is anybody who can be truly regarded as the GOAT of skateboarding, it is Tony Hawk. Born in 1968, he fell for the charms of skateboarding as a teenager. And what happened after that is history. It was by Hawk’s meticulousness that the sport of skateboarding could reach a global audience and eventually became an Olympic sport.

Hawk was one of the first completely deaf people to compete in the sport of skateboarding. He was also the person to invent and popularize a few moves in this sport, like the Saran wrap and 540-rodeo flip. Also known as Birdman for his insane vertical ramp tricks. Hawk has had quite a different personal life. He has had four marriages, the last to Catherine Goodman. But marrying her brought some discomfort, as it changed a particular personal relationship.

Tony Hawk got hitched to his best friend’s wife in 2015

Following Hawk’s divorce with Lhotse Merriam in 2011, the public was expecting new developments in his love life. That came in 2015 when Tony married Catherine. But there was a twist. Catherine Goodman was the wife of Tony’s childhood buddy, Matt Goodman. Matt and Catherine split back in 2011, and not long after they were estranged, Hawk started pursuing her.

But, according to a 2011 interview, Matt was surprisingly okay with this new shift in relationship dynamics. He admitted that although the shift was unforeseen; they were trying their best to make good of the situation.

He said, “Life can be strange but I bear no grudges.” He added, “I know people will think it is strange but I’m totally cool with it.”
