Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk once said, “I never quit. That’s my only secret.” Hawk’s achievement of a 900-degree spin in mid-air was a landmark moment in skateboarding history and solidified his status as a pioneer and legend in the sport. With all the accolades he has earned throughout his extensive career, the skateboarder is no stranger to injuries.
For more than a year, Hawk has been grappling with the recovery process from the fractured femur he endured. In a recent interview, he discussed the situation, revealing that each time he engaged in skating, it only worsened the condition, leading to a gradual separation of the bones. However, there’s positive news for his fans. The 55-year-old recently posted a video on Instagram showcasing his progress.
Tony Hawk: A beacon of inspiration and perseverance
Despite encountering various injuries, the one Hawk sustained last year proved particularly challenging for him to recover from and regain his momentum. The legendary figure’s indomitable fighting spirit has become even more conspicuous during his journey to recovery. On August 3, Hawk posted a video in which he demonstrated a slob grab, signifying his ongoing progress.

In the caption, Hawk shared that he had initially hesitated to attempt a slob grab but ultimately chose not to succumb to his fear. He also quoted Bob Wiley, a character “What About Bob?” released in 1991, played by Bill Murray. Wiley said this line during a therapy session with his psychiatrist, Dr. Leo Marvin, played by Richard Dreyfuss.
Hawk is known not only as a skateboarding legend but also as the owner of three businesses – Hawk Clothing, Birdhouse Skateboards, and, Tony Hawk Signature Sporting Goods.

However, in order to attain the pinnacle where he was crowned World Champion for an incredible twelve consecutive years, he encountered numerous challenges along the way.
Hawk’s Struggle with Injuries
The incident in California last year, resulting in Hawk fracturing his femur, was not his sole encounter with a severe injury. During an interview, he openly acknowledged being rendered unconscious on five distinct occasions. His initial significant mishap occurred when he was just 11 years old at a nearby park, resulting in the loss of his teeth.
His first experience of breaking a bone happened when he turned 30, during the production of a television commercial. Initially managing to clear an 8-foot gap with success, the skateboarder faced a grim tumble when he endeavored to replicate the feat for a second time.
Despite all the challenges, Hawk never shied away from publicly talking about his injuries and sharing his experience.
