On 19th July 2023, Hawk shared a post that contains 2 different images, with the caption, “Current curations”. In the post, the left skateboard was reminiscent of the beloved “Hook” movie, while on the right, Hawk curated a stunning pink skateboard. Interestingly, Michael J Fox, the iconic actor behind Marty McFly’s character in the “Back to the Future” film franchise, was tagged in the post.

Little did anyone anticipate the heartwarming response that would follow. Fox’s 3 words to the post were simple yet heartwarming, “Cowabunga young man”. Cowabunga is a term famously associated with youthful exuberance and adventure, particularly to teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their skateboarding. To this Hawk wrote with immense gratitude, “Thanks Mike, huge fan!”. This sudden social catchup caught fans’ eyes. Along with this, the post, featuring two distinct skateboards, left fans intrigued and touched by the sense of nostalgia it evoked. But this is not the first time he showed his curation skills.

Hawk Skateboarding Review on “Back to the Future”
Three years ago, in an interview with the GQ Sports Youtube channel, Hawk broke down skating scenes from “Back to the Future”. Fox has done a commendable job with the skateboard in the movie and Hawk was pretty impressed by his clever moves. He said, “I feel Back to the Future is a hugely important movie for skateboarding, especially in the 80s. It influenced a whole generation, of kids to start trying skating.” One intriguing fact he revealed was how the skater had used a jump ramp instead of executing a real ollie, and praised the use of authentic skateboard wheels and trucks.

Hawk revealed, “That’s what I like about that scene right there, he went off a jump ramp because the angle of the board is already kicked up so, he is not doin’ a real ollie on that board and he has use of map so you can see the real skateboard wheels”. This attention to detail left him deeply impressed, acknowledging the filmmakers’ efforts to depict skateboarding authentically.
