Rock Climbing has emerged as one of the most exciting sports but it possesses some life-threatening dangers. A similar horrific accident happened recently when a friendly trek transformed into a nightmare. James Bake, a man who loved adventure sports met with a tragic fate during his ice climbing and camping trip near Lakeshore.
James Bake went camping on the pictured rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan on February 6. The man was supposed to come back on 12. But on the second day of the trip, James fell into Lake Superior.
A friendly outing became a nightmare

The US Coast Guard launched a search operation on the evening of February 7. However, the difficult weather conditions restricted the ice rescue team from getting close to the lake. Hence, the helicopter was called to hover across the city. The second helicopter continued the search till the next day but made an unsuccessful return. Unfortunately, the Coast Guard team had to suspend the search until February 8.
Lauren Blake, James’s wife was stunned after the tragedy as she was receiving the climbing pictures from her husband just a few hours before the accident. While talking with the McClatchy News network, Lauren recalled her husband’s love for outdoor activities. She said, “Fishing, hiking, all that good stuff. Anything that included a lot of physical activity, he was in”
Lauren further added that her husband was always careful during the risky treks. Other than his love for extreme sports, James was also one of the most happening people in town. “He had more best friends than anybody. He is just one of those people that everybody was like, ‘he is my best friend'”, she added. However, this wasn’t the only tragedy this year.
Rise in rock climbing accidents
The death of the 31-year-old ice climber was just one of the many unfortunate accidents that happened in the past few months. The rock-climbing community recently saw another tragic accident when a 23-year-old climber fell off a cliff in Snowdonia and lost his life.

The boy was ascending the hills of Y Gribin when suddenly a loose rock came out in his hands while climbing. The increasing rate of such accidents is alarming and it would be crucial to see how the administration reacts to it.
