In recent news, a six-year-old boy from Lancashire is busy continuing his aim to summit the 12 highest mountains in the United Kingdom for a virtuous cause. Here is the story of young Oscar Burrow, who is leading by example for others.

Oscar Burrow’s young rock climbing adventure

When it comes to rock climbing, Burrow is an ambitious kid. But at the same time, he is extremely empathetic and has found a unique way of combining his passion for rock climbing with a social cause. In a Facebook post by Yorkshire Post, Burrow mentioned that he is currently on a journey to climb all the 12 highest mountains in his country, for poor children.

“I want poorly children at Derian House Children’s Hospice to go on holiday,” stated the six-year-old climber. Burrow is halfway through his adventure, after summiting six out of 12 mountains. He started his journey on October 2022, with the Ingleborough mountain in the Yorkshire Dales. Burrow’s next mountain is Snowdon in Gwynedd, which he aims to mount between February 16-18th.

Burrow also revealed that watching Sir Edmund Hillary climbing Mount Everest on TV made him fall in love with the sport. Besides the noble cause, Burrow also has another big aspiration. He disclosed, “I want to be the youngest person to climb Mount Everest.”

Anna Fleming is a professional climber, and widely known for her book “Time on Rock: A Climber’s Route into the Mountains”. In the book, Fleming has deeply explained how rock climbing is more than just a sport to her.

Before beginning her journey as a climber the author thought, rock climbing would mean excelling in the sport, reaching your peak, and becoming famous. However, as she stepped on the rocks, Fleming realized rock climbing was different. It made her more aware of her surroundings and “play with risk.” It also helped her gain strengths she had never thought about.
