The Olympics held in Tokyo this year were a huge success. The games had 206 nations participate, with 11,656 athletes competing at the highest level. However, now, it’s time to prepare for the Winter Games.

Even though the Olympics take place every 4 years, the Summer and the Winter Games are organized with a gap of 2 years in between. As a matter of fact, the Summer Games are held every leap year, such as 2000, 2004, and 2008. Whereas, the Winter Games happen every year after the leap year, for example- 2002, 2006 as well as 2010. Notably, the Winter Games take place on a smaller scale as compared to the Summer Games.

With the new season upon us, it is time to gear up for the Winter Olympics. The games are going to be held in the beautiful location of Beijing, China. It’s only 100 days until the extravagant tournament kick starts. Adding more excitement to the buildup, the newly released designs of the winner’s medals left fans awestruck.

The official Instagram account of Beijing 2022, recently put up a post of all three medals. The caption of the same reads, “With exactly 100 days to go before the start of Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, the design of the medals that will be awarded at the Games has been unveiled!”

The meaning behind these designs is quite fascinating. The medals are described as “Tong Xin”, meaning “Together as one.” This clearly symbolizes the very spirit of not just the Olympics, but sports in general. To elaborate further on the meaning, the organizers communicated to the audience that there is “unity of heaven and earth and the unity of people’s hearts.”

The Chief designer, Hang Hai, has clearly put a lot of thought into these medals. Moreover, Beijing is the only city to have hosted both, the Summer Olympics in 2008 and now, the Winter Olympics in 2022.
