According to a report by Paris Beacon, the Paris 2024 Olympic Committee canceled thousands of hotel reservations and bookings in Chteauroux. The shooting events during the Olympics were scheduled to be hosted in the second-biggest town in Berry Province, France. The justification behind the cancellations of the hotel bookings pertains to “less significant needs than expected’’.

The Organizing Committee defends the decision amid chaos

Because of the recent change in decisions, hotel owners in the area are rushing to figure out the best solution to fill the now vacant rooms. A hotelier spoke up about this turmoil with France Bleu and remarked that only 81 out of the 976 rooms that the committee had reserved to accommodate the public, athletes, and staff are still available.

The committee overseeing the Olympic organizing events, however, defended its actions, remarking that only 482 rooms were released. Tony Estanguet, who serves as the head of the Games, elaborated his statement. According to him, the decision of the committee will create new opportunities for accommodating the event organizers, spectators, and athlete’s families.

The reassurance proposes that the released rooms will be back in the market soon to accommodate tourists for the peak season, and to cover the shortcomings, eventually. It is yet to be seen if the critical shortage will be covered so that the accommodation problems are ameliorated.
