Hunter Woodhall is exhilarated. Coming into the Paralympics, Hunter was touted as a favorite to win the men’s 100m T64 gold. And surely, the para-athlete did not disappoint. When he stepped onto the tracks in the heats, Hunter got a blazing run that took him to the finals. Running alongside the likes of Johannes Floors and Maxcel Amo Manu, Hunter finished third with a timing of 11.02s to qualify as one of the four finalists.
However, while winning the gold is definitely a priority, Hunter Woodhall looks forward to having his family beside him the most. When the 3x Paralympics medalist was stretching his quads to the fullest on the tracks, Hunter’s wife, Tara Davis Woodhall was watching from the stands. Putting on a tense look throughout her husband’s race, Tara finally breathed a sigh of relief when Hunter finished as the third athlete. Following Hunter’s brilliant performance, the athlete was asked about his wife cheering him from the stands. An elated Hunter Woodhall mentioned that it is her support that makes him thrive in the cutthroat competition.
Hunter Woodhall stated, “That’s everything. We do everything together. We train together, we recover together, we eat together. I mean it means the world to just have each other here. We didn’t have that in Tokyo. That was the first thing I looked for in the crowd, to see her and my family and my team. It’s good.” Well, the scenes in the stands were quite contrasting. Prior to the Paralympics, Hunter’s wife, Tara Davis Woodhall clinched the gold medal in the long jump in Paris. Throughout the tournament, Hunter was spotted cheering for his wife from the stands.

Now, the roles have been reversed. While the COVID pandemic prevented the duo from showcasing their unwavering support towards each other, the power couple is making it up in full in Paris. Tara Davis Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall crossed paths initially at a 2017 track meet in Idaho. The duo started dating in 2018 and thus, the Tokyo 2021 was a special one for the two. Despite not being able to cheer each other from the stands the support was strong from both ends. This was the reason why after Tara finished 6th and failed to garner a podium finish, Hunter came out and wrote, “I cannot express how proud I am of you… To see what you did yesterday motivates me more than you know. To compete at the Olympics is one thing, to be disappointed at finishing 6th in a world filled with 7 billion people is another. It shows how driven you are and how motivated you are to be the best. This is only the beginning and it will add fuel to the fire for whatever is next.”
Surely, Hunter was right indeed. After Tokyo, Tara Davis Woodhall’s career graph has been on the rise steadily. While his timing was enough to see him through to the finals, both Floors and Manu have clocked a sub-10. When asked about his goal in the finals, Hunter mentioned that he would come to the finals without any expectations. Hunter will look to enjoy the game and have a blast. Indeed, with the way both have showcased their support for each other, it won’t be a surprise if Hunter Woodhall does manage to win the gold in the finals.
