The Olympic stage has undoubtedly held an esteemed presence in the sporting industry for centuries together. Thousands and more have rushed to find themselves a path toward the platform over the years. However, while the Summer Olympics needs no introduction, the organization has grown to instill the required motivation and first step amongst the budding athletes through the Winter Youth Olympics.
From Jan 19th, athletes aged between 15 to 18 will be welcomed to Gangwon-do for a fierce race at the Winter Youth Festival. And as the dates place themselves on the brink, the organization has taken steps forward to raise awareness of the event among youngsters worldwide. In need of the hour, Olympic medalist Eileen Gu couldn’t have been a better choice for the ambassador role.
Winter Youth Olympics announces ambassador for 2024

The Winter Youth Olympics was an idea put forth in response to growing global concerns about childhood obesity and the dropping participation of youth in sports activities. To stand by the intent and popularize the event, the committee on 30th November declared Eileen Gu as its ambassador. “China’s freestyle skiing champion will serve as a role model and inspire young athletes, while actively promoting @gangwon2024 to a global audience,” IOC media announced through a post.

“It is an honour to be named Global Ambassador for the Winter YOG Gangwon 2024, as this event and the values it champions align perfectly with the message, I hope to spread to young people worldwide: sport is for everyone, regardless of gender, age, ability, geographic location and religion,” Gu said according to IOC. The event has been a rather important part of the athlete’s journey into the industry.

Accomplishments back Eileen Gu
Eileen Gu stands recognized to have become the youngest Olympic champion in freestyle skiing after winning gold medals in big air and halfpipe. The praises further follow along, with a silver medal in slopestyle at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Interestingly, the path towards all of these accolades began for the 20-year-old at the Winter YOG Lausanne 2020. A gold in halfpipe and big air and silver in slopestyle set Gu towards the path of the greats.

This is where it all started for you.” IOC President Thomas Bach stated. “Her [Eileen] role as a Global Ambassador for the Winter YOG Gangwon 2024 will undoubtedly have a profound impact on aspiring young athletes and will help to further spread the Olympic spirit around the world.” Named under Time’s 100 most influential people and Forbes’ 3rd highest paid female athlete in 2022, the youngster and committee looks to hold the needed impact.
