2024— the year USA Water Polo earned its biggest hype man ever— Flavor Flav. Ever since the man signed a five-year sponsorship deal in July, pledging a certain amount to the sport, he’s been a true ride-or-die with a consistent poolside presence. With that, he’s made sure the water polo players are supported, both financially and morally.
In fact, Flav’s added a quirky touch to it too. Wearing a signature Team USA Water Polo clock around his neck, he had made a strong statement in Paris. And well, his social media support has been flowing in constant too. But there was a particular day in Paris when Flav wasn’t just wearing one clock— he doubled down and wore two! In an interview with People, Flavor Flav recently confessed the high points of his 2024 Paris Olympics experience. He remarked, “Watching my water polo team do their thing. Watching Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles win their medals. Being at the rugby game and watching the girls rugby team win their bronze medals,” he recalled everything that he loved about the French capital.
But there was one experience that nothing could top. The moment Team USA water polo players Ashleigh Johnson and Maggie Steffens gifted Flavor Flav a handmade clock. It was a Paris Olympics-themed signature clock that captured the essence of the event through art. “They gifted me this wonderful clock right here. And I ain’t going to lie, but as I talk to you right now, I’m still in shock,” he said.
What made it so special? The clock was crafted by Maggie Steffens’ sister-in-law, Lulu Conner, who tragically passed away in Paris due to a medical emergency just days before the Games began. In the prime of her youth at only 26 years old, Lulu had traveled to the City of Love to cheer on her favorite team—the USA water polo squad. As an artist, she had created these Flavor Flav-style clocks for supporters to wear during the Games, a unique way to showcase their team spirit.
The clocks read, “Let’s go USAWWP” on the back, along with, “Made with love by Lulu Conner.” They were a beautiful reflection of her passion for the sport. But sadly, Lulu wasn’t able to stick around to see it all come alive. However, in a truly touching moment, it was Steffens’s husband, Bobby Conner, who passed the clocks to Flavor Flav.
And now, that clock reminds Flav of his family and his two water polo girls, Maggie and Ashleigh. “I get emotional right now looking at it and talking about it,” he says. However, in due time, he did pick up on the late Lulu’s clock gifting idea and extended a sweet gesture for someone else. Who was it? Let us know.

We’re talking about the customized bronze clock neckpiece that Flavor Flav got made for Chiles and gifted her amidst the medal drama.
When she attended the MTV Video Music Awards, Flav recreated a ‘little Olympics moment’ for her on stage. He then strung together the sweetest lines, “I know they tried to take your medal away from you. But you know what? I got you something that they can’t take away from you.”
