Innovation in sports has frequently sparked debates. The Enhanced Games, a ground-breaking project that questions conventional ideas of fair play, is the most recent chapter in this history. Led by Australian visionary and Oxford University alumnus Aron D’Souza; Enhanced Games, dubbed the “Olympics of the 21st century,” aim to change the definition of athletics by enabling competitors to use as many performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) as they wish. The idea was seeded in early 2023 and has since attracted interest.
The project is now supported by other venture investors, including billionaire Peter Thiel. Concerns over participants’ safety persist as its marketing picks up steam ahead of the Paris Olympics—with others labeled it as “Olympics on steroids.” However, the father of the operation recently addressed the health concerns of athletes hoping to put forward his so-called noble idea.

Now scheduled for summer 2025-swimming, gymnastics, weightlifting, track and field, and combat sports are all part of D’Souza’s grandiose multisport event. With a bold goal of beating world records, such as Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second sprint for 100 meters, D’Souza compares the competition to Formula 1. He defies traditional beliefs regarding the “genetic lottery” using his scientific approach to athletes’ genetic predispositions. Now, in an exclusive interview with The Sun, D’Souza stated, “We care very deeply about the safety and health of our athletes.”
He added, “So that for example, they don’t have an enlarged heart so that there’s not at risk of having a cardiac event on international television. That wouldn’t be good for anyone.” This means that an athlete may only participate if a complete health picture confirms that they fall inside specific biomarker ranges.
A major backer of the proposed, Enhanced Games, the Silicon Valley billionaire argues for the project’s legitimacy, claiming that athletes will dope “out in the open and honestly.” D’Souza is in talks with many cities that offer the required infrastructure, however, the precise location of the inaugural tournament is still not confirmed. With “enough to produce the first games” and former Olympian James Magnussen’s confirmation to join, his plans are on the right track to becoming a reality.
Additional arrangements
The project’s potential is hinted at by the financial support, causing some in the athletic community and beyond to take notice. Meanwhile, Christian Angermayer, Balaji Srinivasan, and co-founder of PayPal Peter Thiel are among the well-known venture investors who have contributed “high single-digit millions” to the initiative.

In addition to pushing performance limits, the goal is to collect vital information on drugs that may improve longevity and promote healthy aging. With 900 athletes showing interest, D’Souza sees a broad field of competitors fighting for prize money as well as basic salary, making Enhanced Games a distinct and contentious chapter in the history of sports innovation.
