Gretzky wasn’t only a clever player but also an intelligent investor. In 1985, Wayne Gretzky took his Edmonton Oilers into the finals of the Stanley Cup Championship. The victory made him a popular figure all across the continent and brought him fame. However, the 99 jersey wearer had bigger plans in his mind. 

Gretzky was becoming a highly paid sports player all around the globe and he knew how to multiply that capital. His investment in one of the Junior Ice Hockey teams was clear proof of his farsighted sightedness.

Wayne Gretzky was the captain of the Edmonton Oilers in 1985. The season’s victory against the Philadelphia Flyers brought out the mastermind side of Gretzky in front of the world. However, Gretzky’s planning wasn’t limited to leading the team but also owning one.

In the same year, Gretzky purchased Hull Olympiques of Quebec, a major team from the Junior Hockey League. The great one made this deal at the whopping amount of $135,000 dollars. However, what came as a shock for the big businessmen was how conveniently Gretzky made a profit of almost $300,000 from that deal in just 7 years. The chosen one sold the Junior team for $430,000 in 1992.

This figure is still very small against the gigantic empire of GOAT. According to wealthy peeps, Gretzky earned $50 million dollars just from endorsement during his career. Post his retirement, the 99 jersey player made $14 million from his businesses.

While the chosen one made headlines throughout his two-decade-long career, the discussions around his earnings intensified in 1990. This was the year when the legendary player signed a $30 Million extension contract with the Los Angeles Kings. The contract extended his tenure with L.A Kings for nine upcoming seasons.
