When one says ice hockey, the first name that renders one’s mind is Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky has held the highest record of 894 goals in the sporting world of ice hockey. The second one to hold the higher number of goals was Gordie Howe, with 801 goals. Nobody to date reached anywhere near Gretzky’s and Howe’s records. But records are meant to be broken, right? The Russian ice-hockey champion, Alexander Ovechkin is close to breaking Howe’s record, who has 795 goals to his name.

As Alex Ovechkin is closing on the record, various ice hockey legends came forward to congratulate him. One of those well-wishers was none other than the 25-year-old ice hockey star, Connor McDavid.

Connor McDavid compliments Alex Ovechkin

The Washington Capitals captain, Alex Ovechkin is only six goals away from Gordie Howe’s number 2 spot of the highest records after Gretzky. The Canadian ice-hockey star, Connor McDavid was also influenced by Ovechkin’s record-breaking victory, as he said, “It’s pretty remarkable”.

In his complimenting note, Connor further said, “He loves to score. I think everyone does but maybe he’s on another level. He’s got such a nose for the net. He just seems to know where to be. That’s a great gift to have and obviously, he shoots the puck so well. I think that’s the main thing”.

McDavid continued praising Alex by adding, “When he gets a chance he doesn’t need much time or much space. He can get it away in a hurry and pick his spot. It’s really, really crazy to see”. McDavid and Ovechkin might be the opponents, but Connor’s heartfelt encomium for Alex shows their respect for each other as athletes.

On Ovechkin’s record-breaking victory, not only McDavid but Ted Leonsis also applauded Alex. Ted Leonsis is the owner of Washington Capitals. After the tournament, Ted took to his Twitter to congratulate the Capitals captain. He penned a note full of gratitude for Alex. Ted wrote, “Most goals ever with the same team…Thank you, Alex”.
