The gravity of the situation even made the critics appreciate his decision. One of Ovechkin’s critics wrote, “I’m not an Ovi fan…but when we accepted him into the fraternity of the NHL…all fans should feel for negativity or Unfortunate circumstances.”.

Other critics also gave him the liberty of choosing what’s best for him, “Don’t agree with his politics, but his personal life is his.”

Ovechkin has established his dominance in Ice Hockey in the last decade. The Russian star player is standing in second place just behind Gretzky on the list of maximum goals. However, Ovechin has said in multiple interviews that he doesn’t care about the record, but his absence would surely disappoint fans who were waiting for the long record to be broken.
