After the recent loss to Winnipeg Jets, another bad news came for the Ottawa Senators fans. Bob Jones, the assistant coach of the Senators, has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. The 53-year-old has been suffering from ALS, a progressive nervous system disease. It’s a condition when the nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain start to lose muscle control.
The “eye-in-the-sky” coach noticed the symptoms last year in November and the diagnosis confirmed it in January. According to SportsNet, players were aware of the situation for the past few weeks. But the club chose to bring it into the public limelight after consulting with Jones.

While many fans kept wishing the best for the 53-year-old, a fan suggested foundations that can assist Jones in his recovery. “This is sad, I hope Bob and his family link up with the ALS foundation in their province.” The user further described his/her personal experience at the place. “ALSNS was a game changer in my brother’s 12-year battle. Amazing support and information.”, the fan wrote.
It’s often said that old friends make you forget new wounds. A similar person who knew John from high school also commented and wished the best for him and his family. “Knew Jonsey in high school. So sorry to hear this sad news. Sending my thoughts and prayers along to him and his family,” he wrote. Another school friend also expressed his concerns and wrote, “Grew up with Bob in School… very sad news! Sending thoughts and prayers to his family.”
