When fans of either NBA or NHL compare their favorite sports, it’s usually to figure out which game induces more adrenaline rush. Basketball fans argue that NBA athletes have more strength and muscular power and score the basket at every hit, which is true. On the other hand, ice-hockey fans believe that NHL athletes are more meticulous as they handle the puck on the ice rink which is more difficult than throwing a ball into the basket. Nevertheless, the NHL fans are also right in their perspective.
However, other than the differences in the outlooks, the 4 major sports leagues are also divided by the revenues and salary caps it generates.

Recently, Allan Walsh, who is recognized as one of hockey’s best-known agents, compared the revenues and salary caps of 4 sporting leagues. While he shared glimpses of the base salary of each league, he compared the NHL cap with other sporting fields. Following this, netizens flocked to the comment section to express their disagreement with the salary figures that Walsh shared.
On 8th February, Walsh took to his Twitter handle to share the salary cap numbers of each sporting league. He tweeted,
“The #1 pick in the NBA Draft in 2022 has a $11M base salary.
The #1 pick in the ‘22 MLB draft received a $8M signing bonus.
The #1 pick in the NFL Draft is making $9.3M this yr.
The #1 pick in the NHL Draft in 2023 will make Base Salary+Signing Bonus of $950k a year for 3 yrs”.
Expressing their dissent with the figures that Walsh gave, fans penned….
Please don’t compare the NBA or NFL to the NHL , those 2 leagues know how to sell their game and stars ,,,the nhl has the most boring personalities in sports . Nobody cares about a good forecheck and some good puck support .

Not comparable

I get where you are going with this, and I don't disagree that there is an inequality here, but the NHL doesn't pull in nearly as much interest or cash as NBA or NFL. You know this too.

Every time you post something like this its counter productive to what you are trying to say. If you look at salarys vs revenues you are actually saying nhl players are overpaid vs the other leagues. This is even more evident when you look at the bottom players on the pay scale

The NHL doesn't have the TV contracts the other sports do and thus less revenue to disburse back to players in salary.

Some fans even pointed out the prices of NHL tickets, which as per fans are much higher than other leagues. They wrote..
NHL ticket prices in Canada are already out of reach for a family of 4 to go to a game. Could you imagine the prices the owners would charge if they had to pay those prices to rookies. Owners will never take the hit. They put it into ticket prices and the fans suffer for it
— Matt Rutherford (@mattyman10) February 8, 2023
So @walsha wants the fans to pay more for tickets so you can put more money into your account? How much did you make last year, was it more than the 1st overall pick? Sounds like you want 3rd and 4th liners making 4-5 mil a year
— James 🇨🇦 (@Jimmycanucks) February 8, 2023
Yes but we’re able to offer lower ticket / concession prices so average fan can attend .

Interestingly, some fans even conceded with Allan Walsh’s salary cap comparisons.
The NBA Revenue in 2022 was $10b.
The MLB revenue in 2022 was $10.8b.
The NFL revenue in 2022 was $18b.
The NHL revenue in 2022 …. $5.7b.

Clearly, while some disagree with the salary cap comparison; others with the numbers that Walsh gave. What are your thoughts on the parallels that the former L.A. prosecutor drew between NBA, MLB, NFL, and NHL? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
