The NHL All-Star game concluded recently with a final that caught everyone’s attention. The Central Division clashed against the Atlantic Division, which resulted in the latter’s victory by a 2-goal margin. Atlantic Division 7-5 Central Division, read the final scorecard. While Ice Hockey winger Matthew Tkachuk, also the alternate captain of the Florida Panthers, took home the most coveted prize of the game, there was another contender who should’ve been considered, as many believe. Fans, therefore, had mixed feelings about Matthew winning the All-Star MVP.

In a YouTube clip circulating around, it shows the precise moment Tkachuk is named as the All-Star MVP. He proceeds to collect his trophy and is then handed over a brand-new car, an SUV model. A lot of the fans had mixed reactions to it.

From mocking the SUV to naming their favorite, fans did not accept Tkachuk as the All-Star MVP

After the NHL announced Matthew Tkachuk as the MVP of the game, Tkachuk received a brand-new Honda Pilot TrailSport, the most rugged SUV in their line of vehicles. Bill Daly, the NHL deputy commissioner, and the Honda national advertising manager together handed him the prize. The fans reacted to him winning the SUV in this manner:

While some fans were showing their displeasure at the recipient by clearly mocking Tkachuk and his car, others were clearly naming Dylan Larkin as the deserving candidate for the award.

Larkin scored a hat-trick in the final, which put them over the Central Division. He also scored 2 goals in the semi-finals, making it a total of 5 goals for him in the two matches. Tkachuk, on the other hand, had 4 goals and 3 assists in total. Besides his only goal in the final, he also scored a hat trick in the semi-finals against the Metropolitan Divisions, which they won 10-6.

The All-Star game took place at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida, home to the Florida Panthers. The Atlantic and Metropolitan Divisions were from the Eastern Conference and the Central and Pacific Divisions were from the Western Conference.

While Tkachuk did take home the MVP award, the fight for the prize was very close with Larkin. While Tkachuk had a total of 7 points over Larkin’s 6, some say the Detroit Wings captain played better.
