“We Got in Line With All These Kids”: Wayne Gretzky Reminisced a Hilarious Visit to the Hall of Fame as a Regular Guest in 2016

After creating all-time records on the ice rink for two full decades, Wayne Gretzky retired as a legendary player of the sport. However, the sport which made him The Great One once nearly made him the point of a joke as a kid ended up giving a piece of advice on how to hit a goal. In 2016, when Wayne Gretzky was featured on Conan, the TV show, he opened up about the day when he went to the Hall of Fame as a regular person. Moreover, he also shared a hilarious incident that happened to him during that visit.

A rare day when Wayne Gretzky got ‘0 for 3’

In the twenty years of his NHL career, Gretzky scored 894 goals, which is still the record for the highest number of goals in NHL history. However, on the day when Gretzky went to the Hockey Hall of Fame with his sons, he wasn’t even able to score one. When he was featured in Conan’s show, Conan asked him if he had ever visited the Hall of Fame.

Wayne Gretzky recalled the day when he took his sons to witness the legacy of their father. He said, “I love going there. So I kind of put a hat on and pair of glasses, and I have two kids who were born after I retired… he was about nine years old, and I said, look we’re gonna go to the Hockey Hall of Fame, it’s pretty cool. But just, I’m gonna keep my head down and don’t be saying anything.”

Further, as he stated the story, he moved on to the hilarious part of it. Gretzky continued, “So, we went for about two hours, and they have this interactive part of the Hockey Hall of Fame down below, and you can take shots.” Gretzky decided to go and explore that with the kids. “So, we got in line with all these kids. My son got out there, and he was four for five. He said, ‘dad, you should try this.’ And I said, ‘okay I will try this.'”

However, it didn’t go well for him. “So, I’m 0 for 3.” Moving on, Gretzky had a huge laugh before telling anything more. And while laughing, he said, “And the kid who is directing the line came over and said, ‘Sir, just move your hand down the stick.’ So, I lift up my hat and, I said, ‘Okay, I am out of here.”
