Last Saturday, 4th March 2023, San Jose Sharks went downhill, as the already struggling team faced a big loss against Washington Capitals. With that loss, the Sharks’ situation in the pool has got even worse, as they stand at the last position in the Pacific division. However, that wasn’t the biggest news from that night. All the attention shifted from the rink to the bench when a heated argument took place between the Sharks’ coach David Quinn and the referee, Gord Dwyer.
As a result, the head coach, Quinn, was ejected immediately after the incident. However, that wasn’t the end of Quinn’s penalty for his abusive language during the match. Recently, the official Twitter account of NHL Public Relations disclosed the $25,000 fine on the Shark’s coach. Let us have a detailed look at the penalty.

In the game against Washington Capitals, David Quinn got into an argument with a referee as he disagreed with the decision of penalizing Kevin Labanc for clipping. Later, the senior executive vice president of hockey operations of the league evaluated the incident, and the NHL recently announced the $25,000 fine. While sharing the update on Twitter, NHL Public Relations tweeted about the fine. They mentioned the reason as, “for conduct demeaning the officials that resulted in a game misconduct.”

And incidents like these just worsen the team environment. Despite being fined by the administration, the league and referees are heavily criticized by the NHL world. Let us have a look at a few of the comments on this tweet by NHL Public Relations.
Reffing is a joke in this league and coaches shouldn’t be fined for expressing their dissatisfaction with the terrible calls being made by officials.

The @NHL needs to start making these officials accountable for their actions, You’re officiating the top league in the world, yes we’re human we will miss some calls, but when a official is looking right at it and doesn’t call it, it’s uncalled for.

I agree with the game's announcers and what THG said, Gord Dwyer shouldn't work Sharks games, at least for a bit. It appears there's something there between Dwyer and SJ.
