Remixes of old favorites may trend amazingly in today’s time. On the contrary, they might go wrong as well. Something similar happened to an Indie Band called ‘Who Is She?’ when they performed a modified version of the 1999 Le Tigre’s ‘My My Metrocard’. In the modified lyrics, they replaced the then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani with the Executive Chairman of Amazon, Jeff Bezos.
The band was supposed to play at the NHL games of Seattle Kraken on January 25, 27, and 28, at the Climate Pledge Arena, but unfortunately got fired after their gig.

‘Who Is She?’ is a Seattle-based Indie band, who were called to perform at the Climate Pledge Arena. However, after their first gig, the band was fired from their NHL gig, apparently, for calling Jeff Bezos “A total jerk”. Furthermore, the team outlined in their statement, “The Seattle Kraken welcomes a variety of artists to play at our games and we do not believe in censoring those artists, as is reflected by the variety of acts who perform at Climate Pledge Arena.”

However, according to the team, the major issue they had was of the band not meeting the professional standard they expected. Further, they said, “This decision was not related to the band’s choice of song. We require that our artists are professional, punctual and avoid consuming alcohol during their performance.”

Notably, the lyrics of the modified song were: “Oh no, Jeffrey Bezos / He’s such a total jerk / Shut down all the bookstores / Billionaires do not work.” While the arena organizers did not attribute their decision to the song, the band was of a different opinion. While explaining the thought process behind the lyrics, the band members talked The Seattle Times.
The thought behind the modified lyrics
The news of getting fired from such a massive opportunity did astound them. However, they were clueless about why it happened, and could only see the lyrics as a cause of the incident. In their conversation with The Seattle Times, they explained, “A Kraken employee pulled us aside after our second set where we played that song. That’s when they told us we were not welcome back. They didn’t give us any specific reason except that we ‘weren’t a good fit for hockey.’ When we asked if it was the Bezos line, they said ‘that didn’t help.”

On the other hand, the band members completely refused to accept the allegations of being drunk. Although they admitted they did drink “5 Coors Lights”, from the green room fridge, but only after they were fired.

Their creativity didn’t go well for the band. They were disheartened as they wrote the message to their fans on their Instagram.
