Mental health is a very closely observed topic in the current scenario. Especially after the COVID pandemic, people have started to focus more on their mental health than on anything else. And a recent incident that occurred during an ice hockey game in the NHL is the best example of why mental health has become a priority.

Recently, the Tampa Bay Lightning forward Pat Maroon, got body shamed by the announcer Jack Edwards. However, the interesting part of the story is how Pat and the other people are responding to Jack’s words. And how Pat himself responded to the same?

NHL Pro star gave a reply in the most unexpected way:

The incident took place during a match where the Lightning was playing against the Boston Bruins. Even though the Lightning lost the match by 3-1, Maroon won millions of hearts with his humble gesture in an uncomfortable situation. During the match, the NESN announcer, Jack Edwards, said“inadvertent fasting for Pat Maroon is like going four hours without a meal”.

Moreover, he also made a pizza joke on the player afterwards. On the other hand, Maroon gave the reply in the most unexpected yet exceptional way, which also made him the hero of the week. In reply to Edwards’ comment, he donated $2000 in Jack Edwards’ name to a non-profit organization; which assists people struggling with mental health.

Pat Maroon informed everyone through Twitter about the same. He said“In support of those struggling with mental health, bullying and body image I am making a 2,000 donation in the name of @realjackedwards to @TampaBayThrivesand I encourage @TBLightning and @NHL fans to join me. Maroon’s positivity attracted the hockey community and fans for the same

After Maroon’s humble yet strong reply to Edwards, many people from the hockey community stood up for the same. Carolina Hurricanes joined the donation cause of Pat and asked other fans to donate to the struggles of mental health and bullying.

Whereas several other people came in defense of Pat and criticized the way, Jack body-shamed Pat. Podcaster Darren Dreger said, “I would agree. There’s no reason for any broadcaster or journalist to do this. It’s embarrassing.” Not only him, many fans and other NHL players are supporting Pat Maroon and his way of replying to the shamer.
