“I Never Won”: NHL Legend Wayne Gretzky Shows Off a Prized Possession About Which He Is ‘Very Sentimental’

The White Tornado dominated the ice rink for more than two decades and has earned a plethora of trophies and medals throughout his illustrious career. However, despite all the awards he has earned for his exceptional skills, there is one precious trophy that has a special place in his heart and home: the iconic Rocket Richard Trophy. But what’s unique about this trophy is that, unlike all other souvenirs, he never actually won it.

The 4x Stanley Cup winner recently gave a glimpse of the trophies and awards he has in his home. However, the one trophy that stood out for him was gifted to him by another hockey legend.

Wayne Gretzky gave a short tour of his rewards

Gretzky recently in an Instagram post revealed that he doesn’t have a lot of trophies at his home and prefers to keep them either at his parents’ home. However, The Great One added that he has kept the “The Rocket Richard Trophy” in his home as he has sentimental values attached to it. The NHL introduced the trophy introduced in the 1998-99 season to honor Maurice Richard’s legacy and was given to the league’s top goal scorer each year. Maurice was the first player in the history of NHL sports to score 50 goals in a single season in 1945.

Gretzky also narrated the interesting story behind the valuable gift. He recalled how one day the Rocket Maurice Richard came to meet him and handed him a replica of the trophy. Richard has made a special trophy for the White Tornado, with his name inscribed on it. Though Gretzky wasn’t the leading scorer for the season, his dedication and commitment impressed the veteran Canadian player.

“This was given to me as a gift by Rocket Richard for the most goals, which I never won the trophy. But this trophy is the one that is very sentimental to me and I am glad to have it in my house”, Gretzky chuckles.
