Paulina Gretzky and Dustin Johnson announced their engagement in August 2013. However, the couple didn’t tie the knot until April 2022. In 2021, Dustin Johnson sat down for an interview with Gotham magazine and discussed his relationship with the eldest daughter of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky. 

During the interview, the pro golfer talked about Paulina’s wonderful gesture and how it helped them maintain their relationship amidst a busy schedule.

Paulina Gretzky is his biggest supporter

During the 2021 interview, Gotham Magazine asked Dustin if Paulina accepts and adjusts to his grueling schedule. “She understands what it takes to be a professional athlete and the sacrifices you have to make,” said Johnson. Paulina grew up watching her father, Wayne Gretzky, so she was well aware of how to adjust to the lifestyle of an athlete.

“She is very supportive in that aspect,” said Johnson. Paulina knows an elite golfer like Dustin has to travel the world to attend various competitions. Like her father, who would constantly travel between Canada and the USA during his career, Dustin goes wherever the tour takes him. However, Paulina accompanies Dustin to many of his games.

The couple also has two sons. According to Dustin, they get little “alone” time because of traveling and the kids. However, the couple split parenting duties according to their schedule to make things easier. While it can get difficult, Paulina’s unwavering support for Dustin helps the couple get through tough times.

Even though Paulina makes sacrifices, Dustin said he has to “put in the work,” The former no. 1 golf player in the world has a strict training regime. Besides physical training, Johnson said he is constantly working to improve his game on the golf course.

How Wayne Gretzky has helped the decorated golfer

Paulina isn’t the only supportive family member Dustin is thankful to have. Father-in-law Wayne Gretzky also supports Dustin in his quest to become a better golfer. The NHL legend also enjoys playing golf. In fact, Wayne and Johnson met at a charity in 2012, a year before Johnson met Paulina.

Wayne and Dustin have also played golf competitively at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. In 2018, the former world no. 1 golfer even said Gretzky was his mentor. Dustin said Wayne inspired and urged him to continue improving even after he found success.

Dustin Johnson is among the top golfers in the world and has 24 PGA tour wins. However, having Paulina as his partner has helped Dustin maintain stability in his personal life.
