Wayne Gretzky’s nickname “The Great One” is enough to explain his stature. The veteran hockey player is considered the greatest ever to step on the ice rink. While the popular notion makes him a larger-than-life figure, a contrasting comment from a veteran hockey player has sparked a controversy. Eric Lindros, a former Quebec player recently grabbed the limelight when he didn’t even mention Gretzky’s name in the GOATs of hockey.

The former center for the Philadelphia Flyers was an impactful player and possessed exceptional hockey skills. However, his career was shortened due to many in-rink injuries and concussions.

Lindros recently appeared on a podcast, ‘The Rodcast’ for the NorthStar Bets YouTube channel. He talked about multiple aspects of his career and hockey sports in general. However, things became shocking when he was asked who was the best hockey player according to him. While Gretzky’s name would be the first to pop up in any mind, Lindros did even make the slightest mention of the chosen one.

Lindros gave the names of two players who were the best for him. He began with Mark Messi. “The rough and tumble side for that era, and the intensity, and the fearlessness and competitiveness.”, he added. Lindros then named Mario Lemieux as the greatest of all time. “He was the most gifted player”, he said.

Fans questioned his choice and said that there was no comparison with Gretzky. “All these posts praising Lemieux, he was lazy as hell, always behind the play. Never backchecked. I watched him for years.”, one friend said.

Others brought things from Eric’s past performances and mocked his accidents and concussions, “Gotta remember Eric had his brains rattled”, another fan wrote. One user questioned his credibility as he wrote, “This dude doesn’t even know who he is with all the concussions he’s had. So you can’t go off what he says.”

Yeah I’m good for his opinion.” It would be crucial to see how far the controversy would lead.
