Jakob Chychrun came to Arizona Coyotes during the 2016 NHL Draft as a no.16. After playing for seven seasons with the Coyotes, Chychrun was traded to Ottawa Senators under three exchange deals. It included a 2023 conditional first-round pick (top-five protection), a 2024 conditional second-round pick, and a 2026 second-round pick.
The news spread across social media soon, inviting several reactions. Yesterday, the official page of NHL posted a picture of the defenseman’s exchange. It received several positive and negative reactions. Here’s a glimpse of some of them:
A fan wrote that going to Ottawa Senators must have been below Chychrun’s expectations:
“Poor guy. Must be a major let down after thinking he was headed to the Oilers or Kings.”
Another fan mocked Arizona’s frequent tendency to pick deals:
“It seems like every season Arizona is in the middle of deals / picks. I’d love to see this franchise turn a corner and be in the mix. If they get bedard I think it will happen”
A similar comment read:
“This is what Arizona has been holding out for?”
A few fans were not happy with Ottawa Senators’ decision:
“Wow! Giving out 1st rounders for this draft? Ottawa’s GM is an idiot!”
“Ottawa still won’t make the playoffs.”
There were many sarcastic comments as well:
“lol is Ottawa thinking they have a shot at making the playoffs?”
However, a few fans were happy with Coyotes’ decision, and for Jakob Chychrun too:

“Finally. Would’ve preferred him come to the Blues, but glad for him that the constant rumours and uncertainty are done.”
“Did not expect this, but as a sens fan this is an amazing deal, we now have among the best top 6 forwards group in the league, and among the best top 4 D groups in the league and our rookie goalie just got rookie of the month.”
Chychrun was one of the youngest defensemen in the Coyotes. In the 36 games that he played with his ex-team last season, he stroked seven goals and 21 assists. Ever since he arrived at Ottawa, the defenseman has remained off the line-up since 10 February.
