Legendary sportsman Wayne Gretzky is a name synonymous with ice hockey. Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Reynolds is an actor and businessman. The two celebrities, although experts in different fields, have more than one thing in common–Canadian roots. Both are Hall of Famers and passionate about hockey.

The NHL legend played an instrumental role in taking the sport to greater heights. After a two-decade-long career, the Great One retired in 1999. Soon after, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his contribution to the nation. Recently, The Deadpool actor and The Great One’s world’s collided when Reynolds expressed his interest in buying the NHL team, the Ottawa Senators.

Ryan Reynolds joins Wayne Gretzky, felt extremely privileged

The greatest form of recognition comes when the nation acknowledges an individual’s contribution and success. While being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014, Reynolds expressed his jubilation stating how privileged he was to be one among the exemplary group of recipients of the honor, including the NHL legend Wayne Gretzky.

“It’s a milestone like nothing else,” he told the CTV News. Reynolds developed an interest in acting at a very young age. He played several small roles before moving to the U.S. and making it to the big screen. The Canadian-American has acted in several genres- comedy, action, and drama.

His best-known films are The Proposal(2009), Green Lantern(2011), Free Guy (2021), and The Adam Project(2022). The actor turned producer cum businessman has set his eyes on the NHL team, Ottawa Senators, to further his love for the national capital.

Ryan aspires to uplift the team

Although the American movie star was born in Vancouver, he grew up in Ottawa and has a deep connection with the place. Expressing his interest to buy the team, he stated that it was an expensive affair and that he aspires to be a part of the consortium that owns the $800 million worth team.

Similar to the interests of the Senators, Reynolds aspires to keep them in Ottawa. Considering that the team hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2017 and is second from last in overall performance, there is a dire need to revamp the affairs of the team.
