“I Was Going to Surprise My Daughter With Justin Bieber”: NHL GOAT Wayne Gretzky’s Birthday Present for His Daughter Once Left Her ‘Numb’

Having dominated the NHL for over two decades, Wayne Gretzky needs no introduction. Even though Gretzky does not play the game, he is a household name in the sport. Thanks to his excellent game, even pop sensation Justin Bieber is a huge fan of The Great One. Notably, being the most famous sports person, Bieber being his fan was not surprising.

However, Gretzky’s daughter happens to be a big fan of the “Bay” singer. And the hockey icon once recalled a “cute” interaction between the three of them when he surprised his daughter with her favorite singer.

When a surprise turned into another surprise:

During an NBC discussion, Gretzky and others talked about Justin Bieber and his love for ice hockey. During this conversation, “The Great One” recalled an incident from the past and how Bieber left his daughter dazed. The incident took place in 2010 when a young Bieber was already in the spotlight and topping charts with his songs.

Although most Canadians and other people were fanning over the young pop star, he was a huge fan of Gretzky. Hence, when the hockey legend was on a talk show, they decided to surprise Bieber with him. Gretzky recalled, “I went on this show, a talk show and it was his birthday. They wanted to surprise Bieber. He was turning 16, and they were like ‘Woah, he’s gonna do it.'”

But Gretzky also had another plan in mind and decided to make it a double surprise, as his daughter was a “Belieber.” The Oilers legend said, “And so, I was going to surprise him and my daughter, at the time was eight. I was going to surprise my daughter with Justin Bieber, right? So this was a perfect scenario.”

As soon as Gretzky went on the stage to greet the “Baby” singer with his daughter, she was stunned to see Bieber waiting for them. Remembering his daughter’s reaction, Gretzky said, “So I walked on and my daughter froze and this was like the Cindy Brady syndrome when the red light came on, she was numb. And so I almost had to carry her across the stage.” It was indeed a very “cute” moment and looks like Gretzky also cherishes this fond memory.

When Wayne Gretzky gave Justin Bieber a special gift:

After their first interaction, Gretzky and Bieber have met quite a few times since then. However, in 2016, everyone’s favorite singer received a special gift from the hockey legend during his concert.

Before his grand show, the NHL icon gave Bieber an Oilers jersey with his name and no. 6 printed on the back. Biber was so glad to receive this special gift from Gretzky that he wore it for the concert on the same day.

That year, Bieber was on his “Purpose World Tour” and was doing a show at MGM Grand, Las Vegas. At the same time, Gretzky held one of his fantasy camps in the city. Gretzky’s wife and daughter had also accompanied him to the event, and hence the family attended Bieber’s concert.
